Leanne Storey

Parent Governor

My name is Leanne and I am a parent governor at Sherburn Hungate School.  I am also a teacher in secondary education and have been in the profession for 20 years, specialising in teaching History.  This is a career in which I have had many roles and experiences, all of which I have enjoyed.  Probably the most favourite part of my job now is organising historic visits for students and taking them to many different places, my most memorable being the WWI battlefields in France and Belgium.  In addition to this, I am also very interested in local History, whether it is near to where I live or local to the schools that I work in.   As well as having a passion for teaching History, I also enjoy visiting historic places of interests, going for walks with my family and going camping (come rain or shine, preferably shine).
I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity to become a parent governor of Sherbun Hungate, as I have two girls who attend this school and I am excited to continue to work with the school and the community in this role.

Ellie Banks

Parent Governor

My name is Ellie and I am a Parent Governor at Sherburn Hungate Primary school. I have been a primary school teacher for nearly over a decade and my passion is primarly in the EYFS setting. My hobbies include walking, baking and planning days out with my two children!

Jane Kent

Chair of Governors

It is a great honour to be a governor at Sherburn Hungate Primary School. Having had lots of experiences in primary schools I feel comfortable in the school space and, most importantly, really enjoy the primary education community and culture.

I have a wide range of interests including the natural environment, music and art, sport and wellness, and I enjoy being in the great outdoors whether with my hands covered in dirt, running my dog or simply enjoying the fresh air. I also bring knowledge, skills and understanding of primary education to the role. I have been lucky to be able to be a class teacher, school leader, educational adviser and inspector and from those roles I have been able to support schools in their development journeys, advising and guiding the senior leadership teams in them. Whilst the expectations, requirements and demands of teachers and leaders are different to my time in the classroom I try to bring a particular perspective to the governor role adding enthusiasm and knowledge where it can best be used.

I am a mother and grandmother, and it is from this perspective that I have a particular passion for Sherburn Hungate Primary. Two of my grandchildren are part of the school family and it gives me great joy to be included in the life of this school seeing first-hand how all our children are learning, growing and benefitting from the skill and commitment of our team.

Niamh Weston

Staff Governor

My name is Niamh, and I am a Year 6 teacher, as well as the Forest School and Design Technology lead. A true nature enthusiast, I find joy in the great outdoors whenever I can. Whether I’m hiking along scenic trails on the weekends or spending time in our Forest School, I always feel at home in nature. Swimming is another one of my passions, and I also enjoy Clubbercise on Mondays, which keeps my energy up and adds a fun twist to my fitness routine.

Stuart Haskell

Trust Governor

Hello, my name is Stuart Haskell and I am a Local Education Authority (LEA) appointed school governor. This is my second term of office having previously completed an 8 year period which commenced when our daughter was at Hungate (she's now 26). I am in the process of winding down at work and wanted to resume my involvement with the school and to help shape our children's education and welfare, something I found very rewarding personally when I was previously a governor, as I now have a bit more free time.
The role of a governor is very interesting, looking into and questioning how the school is run and making sure that pupil outcomes are always the main focus of our work. I am delighted to say that the school has undergone a huge transformation in recent years which has benefited our students enormously and I am proud to say that the governors have contributed towards this in a small degree. When visiting school there is a wonderful atmosphere and it is abundantly clear that the children are happy to be at school and the staff are committed to their welfare and educational progress.
I am delighted to be able to contribute in a small way to the future development of our pupils and I am proud to say that I am a governor at Sherburn Hungate Primary School.

Governing Body Structure

Within Yorkshire Trust, each school has a Local Governing Committee (LGC) that supports the work of the school and the Trust. The LGC has certain delegated authority to oversee the running of the school under the Scheme of Delegation as defined by our Board of Trustees.

Further information about our governance structure, including details of our Trustees and Members, is available via the Yorkshire Learning Trust (YLT) website.

LGB Structure (Quorum: 50% current membership = 4 governors)

Our LGC (Local Governing Committee)

Our Local Governing Committee (sometimes called our Local Governing Board or Local Governing Body) is responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a high-quality education and safe environment for all our children. Together with the Headteacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management of the school, the Governors set the school’s aims and some school specific policies.

Governors are people who volunteer their time to work together as part of the LGC team and who wish to make a positive contribution to their communities. Governors do not need an education background; they have an interest in the role of schools in society and have enquiring minds which contribute to the effective running of the school and the educational achievements and wellbeing of its pupils.
